Tuesday's Tribute - To nursery decor to die for

Last week I told you all I was setting out to organize and redecorate Kaylee's nursery, and this week I'll be showing you some of the progress. Today, you'll get a little sneak peak of a few things you'll be seeing.

I love supporting women who own their own businesses, and that's why I've always loved browsing shops on Etsy, where there are all sorts of fun handmade goodies.

When I was thinking of things to put on Kaylee's walls, I decided I wanted some photographs and some artwork, but I wanted the art to be really special, not baby-ish, and something that would fit with the colors we already have (reds, pinks, and sage greenish colors).

I found so many pieces that I ADORE.

So, before I show you the finished nursery in the next couple of weeks, here's a preview of some pieces that will be on Kaylee's wall. I just love the artist's style. Bold. Simple. Too cute. Love it.

These are two 8x10 prints that are going in a little reading corner I made for Kaylee in her room.






































And, since I'm not made of money, I had to stop with this next set. The print with the verse on it will be customized with Kaylee's name at the bottom, and it will be 8x10. The other two prints will be 5x7.
























































Definitely go check this Etsy shop out. They've got really cute stuff for boys, too, and there are several other pieces I'd love to have. Here's a little sample of some of the other work.

A broken mirror, a lacerated middle finger, and some totally cute hair bows

It's time again for Writer's Workshop over at Mama's Losin' It. I tried hard to come up with something in response to the prompts, and the closest thing I came to was to write in response to this prompt:

"How did you break it?"

The only problem? Well, I've never broken a bone in my life, and when I asked my husband to help me remember things I've broken, all we could think of was a mirror and an olive oil jar that I broke when it fell out of the pantry.

So, the jar (made of very thick glass) is scattered across the kitchen floor in our 365 square foot apartment (the joys of married student housing) and I lean down to start picking it up, except that I put my hand down to brace myself and end up lacerating my friggin' middle finger all to crap, requiring 3 stitches.

The doctor who sewed it up reminded us of Robin Williams and whistled a lovely little tune while he stitched away. Now I have this totally bad ass H-shaped scar right on the inner bendy part of my middle finger. Way cool, right?

Well, that's not all that exciting. Big whoop. A lacerated (I love that word - it sounds so serious - LACERATED) finger, a broken mirror - ehhh. Hardly worthy of a blog post, if you ask me.

So, let me tell you how my friend broke something. Well, actually her dog, Indiana, broke it. Indiana is the family dog, and she had to have surgery to remove a tumor, so I guess you could say Indiana broke the bank.

Here's a picture of the double ruffle ribbon bows - they come in regular size and minis. Just for some perspective, my baby's about 16 months old, and the minis are the perfect size for her. The regulars are still a bit too big for her head.
