Alright, ladies. Let's talk makeup.

I've been fighting a mad case of the frumpies lately, and I'm in desperate need of a change.

So, it's mostly been the hairstyle and the makeup that have been crimping my style.

My hairstyle? Well, I had perfectly legitimate excuse for that. My stylist has been on maternity leave, and I'd rather chew on glass than let anyone else near my hair. I don't know about you, but when I'm left with the choice of either looking frumpy or chewing on glass, I choose frumpy. Every single time.

We all know what it's like to have hair that makes you feel less than stunningly gorgeous. Mine's just been dull. Flat. Boring. Of the non-zesty variety. In need of some serious va-va-voom.

And, just in the nick of time - wouldn't ya know, my stylist is back. So, last night, after I left her lovely little hair cutting booth, I walked in my front door feeling 50% like a new woman. I'll feel 100% like a new woman when I get some makeup I totally love.

I was a liquid foundation girl in my early makeup days, eventually switching to mineral makeup in the past 5 years or so, mainly because so many liquid foundations caused me some sort of reaction - itchy face, burning face, super fun stuff like that. I've been a loyal mineral fan for a while now, but lately it's just not cutting it. My skin's feeling dry and dull. I'm planning on investing in a really good quality moisturizer because I know that will help. But, that'll be easy. It's the makeup thing that's got me stumped.

So - here's where I'm at. UPS just delivered a box of the new Victoria's Secret Pro makeup to my humble little doorstep, disallowing me the opportunity to test drive this makeup for my whole day because they meandered on over to my doorstep after dinner. My impatient self couldn't wait until morning, so I opened it all up tonight and tried it out.

I got the Pro Airbrush FX Face Primer, the Pro Radiant FX Face Illuminator, a concealer, and a liquid foundation. (Click here or here to see what I'm talking about for the rest of you visual people out there) I put it all on, aside from the illuminator, then promptly boxed it all back up, getting irritated that I would have to be returning it tomorrow because I didn't like it. Then, I tried the illuminator stuff, added my own blush, and used some finishing powder from my mineral makeup collection.

Now, I might actually like it, and I'm not sure what to do.

What I really want to do is go downtown to my favorite little boutique filled with things I cannot afford and get myself some high quality naturally-based, no nasty ingredients makeup, and have a consultation so a professional can help me find what's best for me, all the while talking me in to buying more things that I really don't need but really do want. That, to me, sounds like a really fun time.

But...I think my checkbook would like it better if this Victoria's Secret or some other non-85 million-dollar-a-tube makeup stuff worked better, since I'm not sure I'll like the price tag at my favorite little boutique.

And now, in the time it took me to put all this goop on my face and finish this post, my face won't stop itching. So, I will not be wearing it for a full day tomorrow to see how it stands up against the test of a day in the life of a mother of a toddler. I guess we can check this one off the list...

This is where you come in...

What makeup do you LOVE? What makes your skin glow? I want to hear all about your favorite makeup and why you love it so much. I'd get super excited if you share your more naturally-based makeup options with me as my skin freaks out easily, but I'll hear any ideas. I need options. Quickly. I'm impatient. And frumpy-faced, so get a move on and leave me some comments about your makeup!

unfortunately, i won't be any help in this department.

i don't wear foundation, and, from my haggard appearance, it is very apparent that i need to start. so i am in the market, too.

Oh boy - can I relate to this! My makeup in really a huge mishmosh of products. But to be honest with you - I'm a Clinique girl through and through. I love their foundation, face powder and blush. I don't use the eyeshadows though as I prefer Cover Girl or Maybelline. While the Clinique is a little pricey - it's the only makeup I really like and will spend the money on. Good luck with your search!

I just bought Maybelline Dream Mousse liquid foundation. I too was using mineral makeup - Bare Minerals specifically. I have very sensitive skin, and switched from my mineral makeup to something 'cheaper' and have had trouble with reactions. But the Dream Mousse, is very nice, I have not had any trouble with my skin reacting and it gives my face a nice airbrushed looked. As a stay at home mom of a 4 yr old it stands up pretty well, not to mention I live in NM and it has been HOT lately, and it does pretty well in the heat too! One other thing I like about it is that it seals out bacteria, the top twists and seals plus there is a cap.

Makeup is hard!! I use Arbonne products, both makeup and skincare. They are all natural and never make my skin feel cakey. The prices are comparable to Clinique, so a little pricy, but totally worth it.

Bummer I can't really help you! I don't wear anything on my face for the exact same reasons that you described. I itched, felt icky, and then I would break out. So all I do now is put on my neutrogena moisturizer w/ sunscreen and that's it for my face. My eyes, on the other hand, I just use the good ol' cover girl eye shadow and mascara and eye liner. I'm really high maintenance, can ya tell? :)

Good luck with finding something! I hope it's love at first sight. Keep me posted!

Happy Friday!

Hands down I LOVE Sheer Cover makeup!!! But it's a little pricey and you have to get membership and then their shipped to you automatically. I had to cancel because I didn't need them shipped to me as often as they did and it got too pricey. But as soon as we have better funds, I'm going right back to it because NOTHING compares!

Bare Minerals. Once I found exactly what I liked, I started ordering refills on ebay. Which is a much cheaper route then paying full retail. I love it, and have been wearing it for 4-5 years.

I have yet to find that magic solution myself. I tend to buy drugstore makeup because it's affordable and there must be something there that's lovely for the price, right?

I love Arbonne cleansers, moisturizer, etc. Invest in the whole system!! I buy the cheap make-up though. I think you're always beautiful and never frumpy!!

I so wish I could help you ... but I don't wear make-up! Zip, none, nada. I probably should but I don't.

Half the time I've found what I put on before the makeup is more important than the makeup itself (hi! I'm a new reader, and I couldn't resist commenting, since my work requires lots of makeup wearing). All the anti-wrinkle stuff out there is really good for your skin, even if you don't need it for wrinkles. Before I wear any foundation I always put a light layer or Olay Regenerist Serum all over my face, then follow it up with Aveeno Daily Radience moisturizer. That combination keeps your skin smooth and soft, and protects it from both sun and makeup. May favorite foundation is Almay sheer liquid; it's hypoallergenic and really gentle on any skin type!

I love tinted moisturizer from Estee Lauder. It feels like I'm not even wearing anything and has sunscreen in it, so I can throw it on and look decent even if I don't put on any other makeup!

Happy SITS Saturday Sharefest!

I use Mark Lees Hydramatte Foundation. His products are made for those with sensitive skin.

Here's his website. http://www.marklees.com/

I also swear by LaPrairie's Light Fantastic Concealer. It's $70, but you get 2 tubes for this price because it comes with a refill.
